What Is DISC

Is the DISC?
Now there are several ways and approaches to be able to evaluate and predict the tendency of a person's behavior. At one pole, there are just using a simple test to test the skills and abilities; as an example of a test or driving test. While on the other there is the use of personality tests, which were made to give a general idea of the style and behavior of people as possible.

DISC approach lies in between these poles. Granted this is not a complete personality test tool or test the psychometric in a technical sense, this tool provides a description of the style of someone who can predict the tendency of behavior in the future. It is obtained by evaluating the major personality factors that exist in a person.

DISC provides many advantages in its use, if the complete test battery often contains hundreds of questions, and take a long time to complete, DISC questionnaire contained only twenty-four questions, and can be completed in only fifteen minutes or even less. Another advantage is in its interpretation; the complete test is the result of the work of its expert or experts, the results DISC can be done by using a software and can be done with automation, thus the time required reporting will also be much faster.

What is produced DISC?

Basically, the four factors of DISC measure a person's behavior, namely: Dominance, Influence, Steadiness and Compliance. This is a fairly complex construction, and not easily described with one word only, but can be classified as an element of assertiveness (assertiveness), communication (communication), patience (patience) and structure (structure).

DISC real power comes from its ability of interpreting the relationship between the factors. Examples of where a person with a high D (highly Dominant) which also has a high level I (high levels of Influence), they will behave differently with people that D is high but without I. Factors such combination would theoretically generate millions of different profiles .

Using this information, DISC can certainly be used to describe the approach or style develops, motivation and including things he did not like (dislike), strengths and weaknesses, as well as their views on others. Furthermore, it can certainly help to predict a person's response to the situation and circumstances at hand.

What can not be generated DISC?

The main limitation DISC is not able to provide an overview of skills (skills) and the level of knowledge (knowledge) a person. For example, these tools can be concluded that a person will be very suitable in behavior and temperament as an accountant, but will not be able to assess whether the person has sufficient skills to perform the role or duties properly.

DISC and Development

Blood, Bile and phlegm

According to the culture and the ancient Greeks, behaviors and personalities someone is integral to health. They believe that the body contains four basic fluid (called humours) with the four elements of fire, air, water and soil. When one of the more fluid or more dominant than the others, will affect a person's mood and general.

The four humours, blood (blood), yellow bile (yellow bile), mucus (phlegm) and black bile (black bile), each believed to relate closely to the different type of behavior. Excess blood makes a person sanguine, choleric nature produces yellow bile, phlegm, naturally will produce the appearance of a phlegmatic, and black bile associated with melancholia.

This theory, which was first developed systematically by Hippocrates, remained in use until the middle ages. Now of course, we know that these theories are not entirely based on medical facts, but what has been achieved by the Greeks was the first systematic method of describing the types of people. So successful was this approach, even to this day, the words sanguine, phlegmatic and melancholic still commonly used.

The modern approach does not rely on measuring the amount of yellow bile in a person to determine their personality, but the idea behind it can not be traced directly to the theories of Hippocrates.

Carl Jung

There are many modern theories about the behavior of a person based on the idea of four individual factors. Perhaps the most influential was found in the work of a Swiss psychologist, Carl Jung. He defines personality into four different types: Sensing, Intuitive, Feeling and Thinking.

The definitions of these types of research rooted in long-Jung, and certainly not something that also we will examine in this paper. This is important because it represents one of the first serious attempts to map the human personality by modern psychologists. And test based on Jung's work is still widely used today

The Emotions of Normal People

In the early 1920s, a psychologist flamboyant of the United States, William Moulton Marston developed a theory to explain a person's emotional response. Until that time, this kind of work is generally limited to people who are mentally ill or criminal behavior, and Marston wanted to extend these ideas to cover the personalities of ordinary individuals.

To test his theory, Marston needed some way of measuring personality that he was trying to describe. Research conducted by measuring four important factors, Dominance, Influence, Steadiness and Compliance, which became known as DISC.

In 1926, Marston published his findings in a book entitled The Emotions of Normal People, which also contains a brief description of the various tests and experiments that have been developed.

DISC development

Like most similar test equipment (including IQ test), DISC was first used for military purposes and is widely used as part of the admission process of US troops in the years leading up to World War II. After the proven reliability, then gradually DISC used for the benefit of a more general recruitment.

At the beginning of widespread use, DISC limited use in the commercial sector. To be effective, it needs also the opinion of experts, and it is this which makes it expensive. Before utilizing the computer, the interpretation of the questionnaire answers DISC into someone's profile is a difficult job and also complex.

Advances in the use of computers has made DISC can be used universally, because the results can be obtained and interpreted automatically and quickly. DISC eventually become effective solution for everyone, and has evolved into a behavioral assessment tool (behavioral assessment tool) are most widely used in the world today.

DISC system

DISC Personality System is the universal language of behavior. Research group the behavioral characteristics in four main sections called personality styles. People with similar styles tend to show similar behavioral traits. Each individual has these four forces, but vary according to the intensity. DISC is an acronym 4 personality types which means: D (Dominance), I (Influence), S (Steadiness), and C (Compliance).

By knowing its potential, then one can develop themselves as optimal as possible in order to achieve success in career and business.

For those who are responsible for the management of Human Resource Management, profile analysis is a new breakthrough in analyzing the ability of a person to hold a position or task and work. HR management will be very effective if incorporate the understanding of the characters and the behavior of individuals.
